Sheet
Composition & Se-Tenant
Combinations
The full sheet composition is
especially interesting and
complex. The original USSR
stamps were printed on sheets of
100 (10 x 10). Viewing the sheet
with the secondary "Sun Face"
smaller overprints positioned
vertically (as illustrated
below), the various overprints
appear in the following
positions:
-
Columns
1-4: 1.25 Roubles
printed vertically on
horizontal pairs (As per SF5
above)
-
Column 5,
Rows 1 to 4: 1.25
Roubles printed vertically
on horizontal pairs (As per
SF5 above)
-
Column 5,
Rows 7 to 10: 1.25
Roubles printed vertically
on horizontal pairs (As per
SF5 above)
-
Columns 5
and 6, Rows 5 and 6:
5.00 Roubles printed
horizontally on vertical
block of 4 (as per SF6
above)
-
Column 6,
Rows 1 to 4: 0.65
Roubles printed vertically
on horizontal pairs (As per
SF4 above)
-
Column 6,
Rows 7 to 10: 0.65
Roubles printed vertically
on horizontal pairs (As per
SF4 above)
-
Columns 7
to 10: 0.65 Roubles
printed vertically on
horizontal pairs (As per SF4
above)
Total = 100 USSR stamps OR 49
overprint stamps.
Additionally, the first red
overprints change from one
section of the sheet to another.
Viewing the sheet with the
original USSR stamps vertically,
the red overprint positions are
as follows:
-
The
top left group of 25
(5 x 5) stamps is
overprinted 28k
horizontally
-
The
top right group of
25 (5 x 5) stamps is
overprinted 20k
horizontally
-
The
bottom left group of
25 (5 x 5) stamps is
overprinted 28k
vertically
-
The
bottom right group
of 25 stamps (5 x 5)
is overprinted 20k
vertically

overprinted issues without the Sun Face
secondary overprint.
This sheet composition gives
rise to the possibility of truly vast
numbers of se-tenant blocks, pairs and strip
combinations. I have not listed all these
possibilities with individual catalogue
numbers.

The image above
shows a portion of the complete
sheet. All overprint types and
combinations are displayed
within this image.
Overprint
Alignment & Position
Varieties
The overprinting process was
extremely rudimentary and little
quality control was enforced.
The positioning of the
overprints is not
constant. A listing of all these
varieties is outside the scope
of this catalogue and would be
the subject of a detailed specialist
study.
