Introductory Note:
Although the PMR
declared it's independence some years
previously, it was not until June
1992 before a properly organised and formal
postal system was introduced. The first
official stamp issue for PMR was the
"Tiraspol" overprints series of June 1992,
but because these stamps were intended for
use only on prepaid postcards and envelopes,
in conjunction with the face values of the
USSR stamps printed thereon, these
overprints are considered to be "tariff"
stamps and are not usually included in
catalogues of standard postage stamps.
However, the the sake of completeness, I
have listed them here.
The first
officially recognised postage stamp issue of the PMR
was the "State Arms" definitive, issued on
December 31, 1993.
Caution: Under FIP regulations,
issues of countries that are not recognised
by the UPU will not be
allowed entry into exhibitions organised
under the FIP umbrella. The FIP wishes to
discourage the practice of issuing bogus
stamps for purely speculative purposes. The
FIP recommends that collectors do not take
any of this material into their collections.
Any collection that contains this type of
material will be disqualified from receiving
FIP awards.
